Please Mister Please

Wednesday 29 September 2010

will return on Friday. Along with more new content.

This is going to take longer than I thought.

Wednesday 4 August 2010

No computer, no broadband. Let’s give it another week.

One Week To Go!

Sunday 25 July 2010

A computer breakdown, a change of job, a change of house, a change of plans. Activity will resume on this blog and this website one week from now.

Technical Difficulties

Monday 21 June 2010

The computer’s working fine, it’s just that I can’t see anything on the monitor. Back soon. If you’re desperate, there’s always the Twitter feed –>.

Another gig – 24 February

Sunday 21 February 2010

I’ll be one of the performers of Dan Goren’s new group piece Sum Over Histories, as part of Music Orbit Showcase 3: 7.30pm on Wednesday 24 February 2010 at The Forge, 3–7 Delancey Street, Camden Town NW1 7NL. More info here – should be an interesting night of electroacoustic group improvisations and more. I’d tell you more but even I don’t know exactly what’s going to be happening.

Doppelgänger Blues

Wednesday 10 February 2010

Thanks to another one of those wacky mixups that keep happening to me, I found out that some people have been listening to my music on Last.fm, presumably by accident. By “some” I mean “fourteen”.

Enticed by the prospect of doubling the size of my audience, I took responsibility for my artist page and have now started uploading stuff there too. At first, under the “Similar Artists” tag on my page they listed Max Neuhaus and I was chuffed. Then they changed it to People Like Us and I was sad. Now they list a bunch of guys I’ve never heard of so I’m OK with sharing with you again.

There are only a few tracks up right now, but I’d like to put up some pieces I don’t have room for on my website. Will give you a heads-up when new material appears.

Back in the rut. Lessons learned etc.

Tuesday 2 February 2010

Hopefully there’ll soon be some photos or videos to show from the gig last week. It was a fine evening, all round. Here’s a few things I learned from the experience, in roughly chronological order:

  • On Windows XP: System Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, Disable Wireless Network Adapter. Nothing else seems to kill the bugger.
  • How to make and edit a video on my laptop, sort of. (“Do you have a video to go with your piece?” Sure!)
  • Always check that you haven’t been unplugged from the PA before you start playing.
  • Switch off your phone before playing with audio technology.
  • Even if the phone miraculously refrains from interfering with the audio signal, nothing can prevent you from unexpectedly receiving a text from Australia halfway through playing your piece.

Picture is unrelated.

Gig tomorrow + World Class Anxiety (Slight Return)

Wednesday 27 January 2010

No updates the last few days ’cause I’ve been busy preparing for tomorrow night’s gig. Also, I’ve been gradually upgrading all of the main website to the new design, in the hope that it, too, may soon be a World Class Facility like this bucket in Melbourne:

A World Class Bucket

UK première: String Quartet No.2 (Canon in Beta)

Saturday 23 January 2010

I finally get off my bum and play some music in London. After wowing audiences in Melbourne, Paris, and Hobart, String Quartet No.2 (Canon in Beta) finally gets a live performance locally.

It’s part of Music Orbit’s Vibe Bar series, this Thursday, 28 January*, 7.30pm at the Vibe Bar in The Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, London E1 6QL. £7 on the door. The rest of the night includes performances by other string instruments, both real and imaginary, films, and more, probably.  If you want to catch my act you better get there early.

* Yeah, I know it’s short notice. I just found out myself.

A Slow Start

Wednesday 13 January 2010

I’m still more interested in redeigning the website than in posting any new content at the moment.  I’ve finished updating the categories in the sidebar, thus rendering the old subject index obsolete.  The index of names is still there, still out of date.  New content soon, with the rest of the website looking betterdifferent.

New Subscription Feed Redirection

Thursday 31 December 2009

I am trying to seamlessly redirect my blog’s feed from its old address (http://cookylamoo.com/boringlikeadrill/atom.xml) to its new one (http://feeds.feedburner.com/BoringLikeADrillBlog).  You can update your own settings if you wish, but it should soon be redirecting automatically, if I’ve figured it out right.

An Old Look for a New Year

Thursday 31 December 2009

Sorry about the mess. I spent the xmas break moving the blog from Blogger to WordPress (like you care) and trying to get the layout into some coherent, compatible shape. It still needs some tweaking and there are probably some dud links around the place, so please email me if you notice anything particularly ugly or broken.

Website Update

Tuesday 24 November 2009

Yeah, yeah, I know action’s been pretty spotty here over the past few weeks. The good news is the website is fully functional, and all the files should now be back in place.

Instead of finishing off the Dumirescu article I’ve been dicking around with WordPress with a view to upgrading this blog, but editing the templates has turned into a frustrating way to expedite procrastination. Regular posting should resume now I’ve realised that shiny new blog look won’t happen in a hurry.

Under Construction

Thursday 5 November 2009

Apologies if the site went down at the end of last week. I was on a long weekend in Brighton and came home to find an email saying that my site had used up its bandwidth allocation.

I’ve now switched to a larger server which allows more traffic, but the music files have not yet been uploaded. They will be soon. In the meantime, to commemorate the closure of GeoCities last week, please enjoy this page of about eight billion Under Constuction icons.

Okay, that’s definitely it for now

Wednesday 28 October 2009

No updates for a week, while I back things up and move stuff around.
