{"id":949,"date":"2009-09-21T16:04:00","date_gmt":"2009-09-21T16:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cookylamoo.com\/wordpress\/?p=949"},"modified":"2010-05-16T15:53:53","modified_gmt":"2010-05-16T14:53:53","slug":"stupid-tuplet-tricks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cookylamoo.com\/boringlikeadrill\/2009\/09\/stupid-tuplet-tricks.html","title":{"rendered":"Stupid Tuplet Tricks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just the other day <a href=\"http:\/\/cookylamoo.com\/boringlikeadrill\/2009\/08\/call-me-mister-langley.html\">I was complaining<\/a> about writing out conventional dots-on-lines music using notation software.  &#8220;It needs a regular, steady beat, and needs to know how many beats will be in each bar before it begins to fill them with notes and silences.&#8221;  I haven&#8217;t used notation software for years because it didn&#8217;t seem to want to let me do anything fun.<\/p>\n<p>I generally don&#8217;t write for human beings anyway, so if I&#8217;m writing out musical instructions to be understood by a machine I&#8217;d rather use sequencer programs which can give you more direct control over your data.  This means I end up punching in lots of numbers by hand* or writing scripts to generate the numbers for me.
