Toot!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">I&#8217;m packing my bags for Australia, so I don&#8217;t have time to weigh in on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oup.com\/us\/catalog\/general\/subject\/Music\/MusicHistoryWestern\/%7E%7E\/dmlldz11c2EmY2k9OTc4MDE5NTE2OTc5OQ==\">Richard Taruskin&#8217;s<\/a> latest essay in <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">The New Republic<\/span>, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tnr.com\/story.html?id=f3839c75-3724-4154-adc4-e0638e30448a\">The Musical Mystique<\/a>&#8220;, the latest in the ongoing Sick Man Dialogue classical music has been having with itself for years (&#8220;How do I look? Do I look alright? I think I&#8217;m feeling a bit better today, how do I look?&#8221; etc etc).  <a href=\"http:\/\/musicology.typepad.com\/dialm\/2007\/10\/better-inside-s.html\">Others<\/a> are <a href=\"http:\/\/sohothedog.blogspot.com\/2007\/10\/censures-of-carping-world.html\">already wrestling<\/a> the 12,000 word behemoth to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.analogartsensemble.net\/2007\/10\/only-thing-we-have-to-fear-is-ourselves.html\">the ground<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">In fact, I haven&#8217;t read past the first page, and I only got that far beacuse <a href=\"http:\/\/johnsonsrambler.wordpress.com\/\">The Rambler<\/a> was kind of enough to notify me that Taruskin quotes a witty, intelligent, perceptive &#8220;netizen&#8221; called <a href=\"http:\/\/cookylamoo.com\/boringlikeadrill\/\">Ben.H<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">I have only one problem with this.  Actually I have two problems, but anyone who quotes me approvingly is OK with me, even if they call me a &#8220;netizen&#8221;.  The main problem is that I don&#8217;t remember writing it, and couldn&#8217;t find it anywhere on my blog.  It took a bit of googling to find it was a jokey, throwaway comment I apparently made on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sequenza21.com\/index.php\/371\">a Sequenza21 post<\/a> six months ago.  According to the website, I wrote it at 9.10 am, which can&#8217;t be right.  Most likely that&#8217;s USA time, which meant I wrote it very late at night, and was quite possibly tired and emotional.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mind you, Taruskin follows up my quote by saying <a href=\"http:\/\/www.therestisnoise.com\/2005\/01\/behind_the_musi.html\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Mozart in the Jungle: Sex, Drugs, and Classical Music<\/span><\/a> by Blair Tindall &#8220;contains the smartest and most constructive take&#8221; on the classical music industry, so maybe he was in a similarly, uh, frivolous mood when he started writing his little review.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Actually, it&#8217;s more of an honour to find myself quoted (via Taruskin&#8217;s quote) in the <a href=\"http:\/\/64.233.183.104\/search?q=cache:0qdSkSNcc_AJ:forums.somethingawful.com\/showthread.php\">Something Awful<\/a> forums.
