The past month has been crammed with Work and Real Work and Work Work, but I&#8217;ve had two great evenings out at the Proms this year: a killer performance of Lachenmann&#8217;s <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/proms\/whats-on\/2013\/july-15\/14558\">Tanzsuite mit Deutschlandlied<\/a><\/em> (played in the UK at last) and a reminder from Ex Cathedra of how Stockhausen <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/proms\/whats-on\/2013\/july-19\/14566\">never stopped being a great composer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In between all this, I&#8217;ve been trying to finish off this unforgiveably large and unwieldy piece for piano. With luck it will be presentable sometime in August. It starts off pretty sparse&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cookylamoo.com\/boringlikeadrill\/blogpix\/antis01.jpg\" title=\"Line 5\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; gradually gets more dense&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cookylamoo.com\/boringlikeadrill\/blogpix\/antis02.jpg\" title=\"Line 37\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; then denser still, more quickly&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cookylamoo.com\/boringlikeadrill\/blogpix\/antis03.jpg\" title=\"Line 65\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; until it reaches maximum density&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cookylamoo.com\/boringlikeadrill\/blogpix\/antis04.jpg\" title=\"Line 174\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; whereupon it continues in the same vein for another eighteen hours.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I always have a reason to dislike summer.
